The spiritual needs of the kindergarten students will be met through the celebration of daily prayer, weekly liturgy and concepts of faith presented through the use of the religion curriculum. Students participate in the Catechesis of Good Shepard Program.
Students in kindergarten will have a balance of literature and writing activities through exposure to many types of stories, predicting and retelling literature, building letter and word recognition, and writing for various purposes.
Kindergarten students are taught basic math concepts using manipulatives (cubes, pattern blocks, geoboards, buttons, etc.). Math activities focus on concepts of counting, shape recognition, sorting, classifying, patterning, grouping, comparing and problem-solving.
Science in kindergarten incorporates the thinking skills of comparing, observing, problem-solving and communicating through hands-on experiences.
Social Studies in kindergarten focus on the child’s everyday life. Children learn about themselves and their place in the world.
RES is a 1:1 computing school for grades K-4. Kindergarten students will be taught how to use and care for their assigned iPad. Technology is used to enhance basic vocabulary and math skills. Additionally, students will learn how to become responsible digital citizens.
Our school counselors provide in-class lessons focused on social/emotional and problem-solving life skills such as emotions and emotional regulation and friendship skills.
Creating various types of art is an important part of every kindergarten day. Cutting, pasting, coloring, and drawing are all skills used to help develop our students' fine motor skills.
Music helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. They also learn rudimentary musical skills such as sound, beat and rhythm.
Physical education class helps students reduce stress, strengthen friendships and improve self-confidence and self-esteem. The activities in physical education are designed to help students develop gross motor skills and increase strength and endurance.
All aspects of language (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) can be strengthened in the Library. Through story time, they learn new words and their comprehension grows. While in our library, students begin to appreciate stories and literature.
